On Saturday 18 Feb, Kingston celebrated winning the Surrey Advertiser Challenge Trophy (Rosebowl). With 22 clubs each submitting five of their very best PDIs, this represents a considerable achievement.
Our five entries were:
| "Forest of Fog" | Lucy Spiers | (9.5) |
| "Minimal Custom" | Sue Buller | (8) |
| "On the Bridge at Evening" | Brian Collins | (10) |
| "Sycamore Flowers" | Keith Every | (10 Highly Commended) |
| "White Water" | Tim Morland | (9.5) |

In the final meeting of the 2010-2011 season, David Mendus stood in for the indisposed Peter Symes to judge the annual competition to produce the best (or most interesting) image all based on a given image. This year the given image was a shot of ladies sweeping the Shwedogon Pagoda in Yangon (Rangoon) by last year's winner Brian Collins:

The winning image was "High Heel Sneakers" by Sue Buller:

This was one of four images Sue worked on to enter the digital image competition. For this one, she decided to crop a section just from the lower of the original photo, to include just the figures in the temple and the tiled area they were sweeping. Heavily distorting this section created a different, highly coloured, pattern, which looked like a line of grey high heel shoes. At this point, she stopped working on it and saved it. Sue was delighted her image won this competition
Once again, Tim Morland had a print "Chanctonbury Ring" accepted in the prestigious "Landscape Photographer of the Year" competition. This year he was joined by Keith Every with an acceptance of "Winter Walk". Congratulations to both of them.
See the competition and exhibition details at Take a View. The exhibition is at the National Theatre and runs from the 22nd November until the 16th January and entry is free. Check out the National Theatre website for full opening times.

The penultimate meeting of the 2009-2010 season was the annual competition to produce the best (or most interesting) image all based on a given image. This year the given image was an interior shot of Bentall's Shopping Centre by last year's winner Katharine Cary:

The winning image was "Cathedral of Commerce" by Brian Collins:

Brian Collins had notable county and national success with the image Lao Schoolgirl, which not only won the award for "Best Colour Print" in the Surrey Photographic Association Biennial Exhibition, but also a Royal Photographic Society "Judges Ribbon" in the RPS Digital Imaging Group annual print competition.

Tim Morland ARPS was runner up in the "Classic View" category of the prestigious "Landscape Photographer of the Year" competition. See the competition and exhibition details at Take a View. The exhibition is at the National Theatre and runs from the 5th December until the 24th January and entry is free. Check out the National Theatre website for full opening times.
His stunning winning image is:

Kingston Camera Club represented Surrey Photographic Association in the PAGB inter-federation print competition at Connah's Quay in North Wales on October 24th. We did not win. But we came honourably in the "middle of the pack" of some extremely stunning and powerful images.
The top four clubs in the competition were the same four as in last year's competition - Wigan 10, Smethwick, Arden and Dumfries. These are very strong competitors.
In the initial round (out of 34) we were 26th=. In the plate (out of 26, once the top eight clubs moved to the final) we improved to 13th= - right in the middle.
